Paradoxon Op17

Composer's note

Completed in 2003, Paradoxon is dedicated to my French friend, Francis Marchal, resident in England, who is both musician and philosopher. One of its three themes is the "Agincourt hymn", highlighting the ironic nature of this work. The love-hate relationship between the French and English, as well as between organists and clergy, influenced by the fact that pipe organs preponderate in churches, are the inspiring ideas here.

Paradoxon includes elements of recitative, palindrome, scherzo, a trio combining the three themes, a lyrical section and a frenetic conclusion.

Duration: about 9'45"
