Chorale Metamorphosis
for two violins, violoncello and harmonium

Composer's note

‘Metamorphosis’ refers to thematic transformation, as well as to several reworkings of this opus. Written in 1996 and revised periodically over the following decades, this extended work is based on two themes which eventually combine, rather in the spirit of Franck’s Chorales for organ. However, here the musical language is influenced not only by French, but also by Spanish, English and German traditions of several centuries. Pause, rests and silence are also integral to this piece. The instrumentation suggests that it could be performed as a companion piece to the delightful Bagatelles by Dvorak.
